Hi Team 3 Parents,
This week we will be using the brainstorm form last weeks homework to write and publish reports. We will present these as brochures that you will get to see at Student Led Conferencing at the end of this term. Thank you for your help with this, the research can be a challenging aspect... and it is good practice for brainstorming for speeches next term. Chapter book challenge is progressing well and the sticker chart is starting to fill up. Just a wee reminder that I expect students to be able to summarise their book to me showing that they understand it. It is our job as teachers/parents to support students choices of a chapter books and help them to find topics of interest and books appropriate for their reading age. I have a few chapter books at school that are tailored to a reading age of 6- 8 years if finding the right books is a challenge. This week we are moving into multiplication/division learning in maths. Thee is a wide range of understanding in this area so the homework may be easy or tricky... it is catered to Year 3 and as I've mentioned before, any extra teaching explaining is extremely beneficial. I used my release time last week to do some 8 year assessments. Look out for postcards in the mail this week. Mrs Colvin read a lovely book about why we are unique and the children created a piece of art and a statement about what makes them unique. Call into class and read what your child has written, they are very cute. The gymnastics Festival was a huge success last week. The standard of performances... as well as behavior was outstanding and I am very proud of the way we were able to manage ourselves... great representation for Makauri School. I am attending the third Incredible Years course this Friday. Mrs Mc PHail will be teaching. See you all this week Hi Team 3,I hope you have had a great sunny weekend. Lots of winter sports started this weekend which always makes for a busy weekend for all those involved.
Last week I sent out the notice about the Gymnastic festival, practices of the routines for this are going well and we are looking forward to participating next Wednesday 13th May. Please remember to bring the $2.00 fee into class asap, and start thinking about the black shorts/leggings required for the day. Just a reminder that I will be away on a Enviroschool/Science Fair workshop this Wednesday and Mrs McPhail will be teaching in Room 3. See you tomorrow, Wendy Worters Good evening Team 3 parents,
I hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend and managed to spend some time giving thought to the ANZAC soldiers who were so courageous 100 years ago. This week we continue to learn about ANZAC dayand WW1 and will begin to do some report writing. We will be returning the class to 2015 though, living at school in 1915 was a fun experience but I feel we need to return to normality now. It was great to see such enthusiasm last week for the chapter book challenge. I had some children inform me that they had finished their chapter book already (on the 2nd and 3rd day), I have had to re-emphasise the need for the chapter book to stretch our reading skills and the guideline is that a book should take 1 - 2 weeks to read. This is a fair guideline that ensures there is enough of a challenge for every child and caters for the range of different reading abilities. Please help to emphasise this at home. Please note a few date changes that are different to my beginning of term email. Room 3 assembly will now be Week 8 on Friday 12th June. Student Led conferencing will be Week 10 on Wednesday 24th June Parnet Interviews will be week 11 on Tuesday 30th of june, and will be one day only starting at 12pm. I will be sending home a notice about the Gymnastics Festival so look out for this in the bookbags. Regards, Wendy Worters Hi Team 3 parents,
This week will be a sad one as we prepare to farewell Mrs Hill. We are having a farewell assembly (top secret) at 2.00 on Thursday so feel free to come along and bring a box of tissues. We had a fantastic assembly last Friday, I was very proud of everyones performance. This week I was wanting to incorporate some fun Easter themed activities, if anyone has concerns about this, please let me know so that I can adapt things accordingly. I'm currently waiting for the cricket to start... Very exciting lead up, go Black Caps! See you all tomorrow, Wendy Worters Good evening Team three parents,
Week 8 has crept up on us, it has been a busy start to the year with The Triathlon, Gala and Swimming sports. This week I have a couple of blocks during the day where I am on release and Mrs Colvin will be teaching in Room 3 (Wednesday and Thursday). On Friday I am accompanying the other junior teachers on The incredible years course and Mrs McPhail will be in Room 3. Remember that Our assembly is now week 9 (27th March). Wishing you all luck and good wishes over the next couple of days as the cyclone approaches. Regards, Wendy Worters Hi Team Three parents.
I have attached the notice that was sent home during the week about swimming sports. Please make sure students come to school early on Monday and are wearing their togs under their clothes. Today I introduced the class to a website which teaches them how to program their own game using codes. I was impressed with the perseverance and the skill some of the class had, as well as the enthusiasm. The concept is mainly maths based but encourages thinking, perseverance, and higher level thinking. The website for you to check it out iswww.hourofcode.com I have given each child their own login to use if they want to be able to keep track of their progress and continue through the levels instead of starting again each time. The URL for this is http://studio.code.org/sections/EKXRGT the students will then need to click on their own name and enter their secret word which I provided today. We have made lots of coconut ice at school and are ready to sell it at the Gala tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who donated the ingredients, we were able to make about 70 bag fulls. See you all tomorrow, have a great weekend. Hi Team 3,We have had such a busy week with reading, writing and spelling assessments as well as the Triathlon. Such an amazing effort was put into the Triathlon by everyone on Wednesday, Well done guys...you should be very proud. Just a wee update on the next few days... another busy week. Week 6 Monday morning, half of Room 4 will be joining us for the morning while Ms Fitzharris helps out with the Senior swimming sports. Tuesday I am on release between 10.30 and 2,30 and Mrs Colvin will be teaching in our class, I will still be in the school. Wednesday I am taking the year 5 & 6 Enviro schools students to a workshop with local councilors to see how we can make changes to the community. Mrs McPhail will be teaching in our class. Thursday we will be making coconut ice for the School gala. I have had lots of donations, thank you so much. If anyone would still like to contribute I am currently a little short of coconut. ...And somewhere between all this business we will be getting ready for the Makauri Swimming sports, held on Monday 9th March at Enterprise pools. Hope you all have a great weekend. The weather looks fabulous and I have a tent set up at Waikanae beach waiting for me to return for the weekend. Wendy Worters Hi Team 3 parents,
We have had a great first three weeks at school getting to know each other. Routines are starting to be put in place with regular writing, reading and maths lessons being timetabled in each day. It was great to see most students return their homework on Friday, a promising start to some great self management and good work habits. I have attached the triathlon rules/expectations for your information, and I will send home a reminder that bikes can be brought into school this Thursday. As many year 3,4,5,and 6 students throughout the school will be away on Wednesday for the Weetbix Triathlon, the remaining students from Room 10 will be joining us in our class on Wednesday. I hope you all have a wonderful Weekend despite the rain, Wendy Worters. |
