Homework will be sent home on a Monday night and children are expected return it to school on Friday for checking and marking as a class. The expectation at Year 4 is 20 minutes each night with an emphasis placed on beginning good daily work habits, and to support the learning at school. Homework each week will consist of spelling, reading, and numeracy.
Spelling: children are expected to learn and practice spelling words from their
notebooks every night. Notebooks will be sent home on a Monday and need to be brought into school on a Friday for Whizz Word testing.
Reading: Children should be engaged in daily reading from a range of sources. Try to look for texts that your child is interested in. Reading of chapter books, the weekly school newsletter, a recipe in a cook book, or a high interest magazine are all valuable sources. School readers and journals will be sent home during the week and should be returned to school on a Monday. A chapter book challenge will be started in Term 2. Library books will come home every week.
Numeracy: Numeracy homework is based on studyladder. tasks for the first term
Extras: I have included the link to some websites that provide addition learning games for students to play.
I have also enrolled the class in a program called studyladder. Students have a unique username and password which they can use to access set tasks to complete. This is not compulsory, however some students and parents enjoy the extra challenge.
