Homework
It is expected that at Year 3 your child should be doing 15 minutes of homework each night, with an emphasis placed on beginning good daily work habits, and to support the learning at school. Homework each week will consist of spelling, reading, and numeracy.
Spelling: children are expected to learn and practice spelling words from their
notebooks every night. Notebooks will be sent home on a Monday and need to be brought into school on a Friday for spelling testing.
Reading: Children should be engaged in daily reading from a range of sources. Try to look for texts that your child is interested in. Reading of chapter books, the weekly school newsletter, a recipe in a cook book, or a high interest magazine are all valuable sources. School readers and journals will be sent home during the week and should be returned to school on a Monday.
I have also set up reading accounts in EPIC, an online reading resource which we will be using in the classroom.
You will receive a notice providing information which will enable your child to sign into their account. They will be given an personal password.
Library visits will be weekly with the opportunity for the children to take them home to read.
Numeracy: Numeracy homework is based on Prodigy which is a free, adaptive math game that integrates math into a fantasy style game that students love playing. I will send a notice with all the relevant information that you will need.
Extras: I have included the link to some websites that provide addition learning games for students to play.
